Marlena & Sami/The First Bandages Come Off/
Curtis Reed & Kate Finds Her Children Story Begins/
Bo & Billie in LA/Carly Wakes Up/
Kate And Victor's First Wedding
August 9 - September 7, 1993

Marlena tries to talk to Sami about what is going on with her, but Sami is evasive. Marlena pushes it, asking Sami to trust her. Sami runs upstairs, leaving Marlena pretty upset. Carrie (who is getting her bandages off tomorrow) arrives and offers to talk to Sami when Marlena tells her that if they don't get Sami help soon she'll get worse.

Marlena catches up with Sami at the mall and suggests that they go shopping together. Sami tells her that she'd die if the kids from school saw her shopping with her Mom. Marlena walks off hurt and Sami tells Jamie that she had to do it. They spot a suit in the window of the store and Sami buys it, saying that she's lost seven pounds and can now get into it. She thinks it will help her win Austin but first she has to do something with her makeup and hair. She heads for Titan to get her paycheck. In the conference room, Marlena is talking to John about her problems with Sami. Sami sees john hugging Marlena and flashes back to the night of the Titan party. She storms into the room and asks the two of them what they think they are doing. Marlena tells her she was talking to John about her. Sami doesn't believe her and John tells her that surely she knows that her mother would never lie to her. Sami says yeah right and then storms back out of the room. Marlena wants to follow her, but John tells her to give Sami some space - Carrie was the same when she was younger. Marlena tells him that she hopes that he's right but she's not so sure. Outside the conference room, one of Bella's make-up artists gives Sami a whole lot of make-up for her new look. Marlena comes out and wants to know why Sami accused her of being a liar, doesn't she know that she would never lie to her. Sami glares at her mother and Marlena tells her that she wants to talk about this after her meeting. Sami says that she doesn't have the time. Marlena says make the time - now, but when she goes back into the conference room, Sami leaves.

Austin turns up at Carrie's apartment, looking for Billie who isn't there, and offers to take Carrie to the hospital to get her bandages off. They are having breakfast when Lucas calls. Carrie tells him that Austin is taking her to the hospital. Lucas wishes her luck but isn't at all happy when he gets off the phone. Later, Austin turns up at Carrie's early and suggests that they take a drive by the lake before they go to the hospital. However, Lucas turns up with flowers and wants to take some before and after shots. Austin isn't happy, but goes down to bring his car up front. He comes back up fuming, and blames Lucas for letting the air out of the back tires. Lucas ends up taking Carrie to the hospital and taking the drive by the lake.

Marlena discovers that Sami is gone but catches up with her at the pub. Sami has her hair braided and apparently spent a weeks wages on it. Jamie leaves and Marlena tells Sami that she thinks she's figured out what's going on with Sami - it's boy trouble. Marlena urges the evil-twin-in-training to tell this boy how she feels and tells Sami that she's beautiful and any boy would love to go out with her. Sami unfortunately decides to take her advice and finds Austin at the hospital and asks the poor boy to go out with her... Austin refuses which doesn't make Sami a happy young thing at all.

Marlena catches up with Carrie who's about to get her bandages off but tells Carrie that the doctor will be a little while. Carrie asks her to go home and rest, she doesn't want to make a big thing of this. Marlena agrees and heads home via the mall where she buys a new comforter for Sami. At home she puts is on her bed and cleans up after Sami. However she opens the closet to find a stash of junk food... Lucas kisses Carrie and she wants to know why he did it. Before the conversation can get too far along, they are interrupted. Later Dr. Phelps takes off Carrie's bandages but the graft hasn't taken. Carrie is angry at herself for hoping that it would work. Austin tries to tell Sami he wants to be her friend but she's pretty devastated. She asks him to go and he does, but Jamie comes into the room. Sami tells her that Marlena persuaded her to let him know her feelings and she can't believe she fell for it. She heads home but Marlena is waiting there for her with the laxatives she found in her room. Marlena confronts Sami but Sami denies everything and tells Marlena she's just looking for ways to make her unhappy. Marlena follows her up to the bedroom and begs Sami to tell her what the root of these problems is as she wants to help her. Sami tells her that if she doesn't let up she just might tell her and she won't like that.

Austin comes in and speaks to Carrie. She wants him to go away but he tells her he thinks the scar is the only reason they're not together and he tells her he can't pretend anymore that he doesn't care about her. He invites her up to the cabin in the mountains to spend some time and she thinks about it. Marlena wants to know what Sami means by what she said, but Sami backtracks and tells her to forget it, she was just trying to get her off her back. She eventually tells Marlena that the laxatives are Jamie's which doesn't please Jamie too much later when she comes round. Marlena goes over to Alice's for a little chat and then comes back for round two with Sami. However when she comes into Sami's room she finds Sami trying to get rid of empty food wrappers and realizes that Sami was lying to her.

Carrie decides not to go to the cabin and calls Austin to tell him. Marlena confronts Sami about the bulimia, realizing that she lied and tells her she needs therapy/ Sami begs her not to tell Roman, she'll do anything if only Marlena doesn't tell him. Roman interrupts the conversation and Marlena doesn't tell him. They all have dinner and then Sami, saying she's really tired, heads for bed. Roman follows her and thanks her for making up with Marlena.

Carrie changes her mind in the morning and decides to go up to the cabin after all. Lucas calls Brandee and gets her to go up there under the pretense that she wants to talk to Austin about some problems she is having with her brother. Lucas takes Carrie up to the cabin - but when she gets there she sees Austin and Brandee swimming.

Kate goes down to the hospital and is upset when she hears about Abby and she offers to be tested for being a match. Afterward, she sits down in the staff lounge and opens a locket. Inside the locket are pictures of two babies and she starts crying.

Brandee comes up from the lake and tells Carrie that she's been there all night and she and Austin made love. Carrie begs her not to tell Austin that she was here and Lucas takes Carrie back to town. Austin and Brandee have lunch and then Austin decides to go back to town to find out what's up with Carrie. He takes Brandee back, and they stop at the mall. Carrie sees them hugging and grabs Lucas and plants a big kiss on him.

Marlena gets home and asks Sami how her day was and Sami avoids her questions about seeing the therapist. However, the therapist calls and fills Marlena in on the fact that Sami missed the appointment. Marlena is furious and tells Sami that maybe Roman can talk her into going. Again Sami begs Marlena not to tell Roman - he'll think she's disgusting and sick and she'll be so ashamed. Marlena tells her she is sick - she has a very serious disease. Sami replies by saying that she's getting better. Marlena tells her that she can fix the eating part of it - but she still has to find out what the underlying reason is. Sami spits back that she already knows what that reason is. Marlena asks her what and Sami lies and tells her it was the boy. Roman comes in and Marlena says that they have to talk - but they are interrupted by a knock at the door. It's friends of theirs - Richie and Barbara. Barbara is heavily pregnant and they have bought Marlena and Roman a teddy bear for the baby. Roman gets a phonecall and tells Richie it's his unlucky night - he's going to have to go on a stakeout. The couple leave, but Roman interrupts Marlena who's telling him they have to have a family conference and says that he feels bad for Richie and he is going to go down and take over from Richie so he can go home and help Barbara put the crib together. Later Jamie comes over after Marlena heads to the Horton's for the meeting and Sami and she hear a news bulletin on the radio saying that a cop has been shot on a stakeout. She rushes over to the Horton's to find that Roman is not there and tells her mother what she heard. Jonah takes them down to the scene where they see a body under a cover - wearing Roman's jacket.

Marlena gets under the crime scene tape and Sami follows her. They are kneeling next to the body when Roman comes up behind them. They go to him and he tells them that it's Richie. He explains that Richie felt he had a personal stake in this case and Roman lent him his jacket as he was supposed to be plain clothes. Marlena and Roman decide to go and tell Barbara what happened. Once that is over, Roman realizes that it could have been him that was killed. They go for a walk down to the pier and Roman tells Marlena that he never really let himself think about being shot before, but tonight it's become all too real. Marlena tells him she thinks about it all the time. Roman says that he can't let it happen. Meanwhile Jonah is supposed to take Sami home but she takes the bus instead. However, she stops off at the pub first and tells Shawn that she has friends coming over and she wants some hamburgers and fries. Shawn gets them for her and she takes them outside and chows down.

A Reed or a Roberts in every scene. (August 24) Jack breaks down in Kate's office over Abby. She comforts him and tells him she lost two children of her own. Austin is tested as are Lucas and Carrie. They all meet up and there is friction as Lucas and Austin wait while Carrie is being tested. Lucas provokes Austin but when Carrie comes out makes it look as if Austin was going for him.

Meanwhile Carrie comes over to the Brady's and tears into Sami for being such a little snot towards her mother. Upstairs Roman is talking about his job again and when he feels the baby kicking he says that he is going to be there for the baby in the way he couldn't be for Carrie and the twins. They come downstairs as Sami is about to walk out on Sami and Roman gets Sami to walk him out to the car. Carrie overhears Marlena make a call to a therapist and tell him that Sami has bulimia. Marlena realizes that she's listening and gets off the phone. They talk and then Sami comes back in. Carrie apologizes for yelling at her and Sami is furious that Marlena told her. Carrie explains that she overheard but Sami tells Marlena that if she tells Roman, Sami won't be the only one that disappoints him. Carrie tells Sami that they'll help her through this and Marlena prompts her to go on over to the Horton's. With Carrie gone, Marlena tells Sami that she wants to know what's wrong - what she's done to make Sami so angry with her. Sami says she just can't tell her. Marlena tells her that she just wants to make everything all right and she'll do *anything* to help Sami. Sami says then give her another chance. She'll go see the therapist if Marlena won't tell Roman. Marlena eventually agrees and makes an appointment for Sami to see a Dr. Dorman in her office. When Sami gets there the Dr. tells her that anything she tells him won't leave the room.

Abby had Aplastic Anemia, (Aplastic anemia [a-PLAS-tik uh-NEE-me-uh] is a rare and serious blood disorder in which bone marrow stops making enough new blood cells. Bone marrow––the spongy material inside bones—makes new blood cells called stem cells. Stem cells normally develop into three main types of blood cells: red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Each type of blood cell has its own functions in the body. However, in aplastic anemia, normal production of all blood cells—red cells, white cells, and platelets—slows or stops. This is because the stem cells have been damaged. The cause of this damage is often unknown.) The only cure is a bone marrow transplant. All of Salem is tested for a match. Jenn calls Jack at Titan and tells him he has to get down to the hospital right away - they've found a donor for Abby. There they find out the compatible donor is none other than Austin. Tom takes a history from Austin and they all hear how Austin and Billie's mother abandoned them when they were young. Later Jenn tells Jack that she wants to do something to thank Austin - she wants to find his mother for him. Jack agrees.

Kate decides it's time to tell him the real truth and reveals she was married before he was born. She tells him she was young and in love but once she was married, he started gambling and got into drugs and then he started beating her, the last time so badly he almost killed her. Then she tells him she had two young children. She tells him she met his father and was happy for a while but then her husband found out - that was when he beat her so badly and he left her, taking the kids. She says that she looked for them for ages but when she eventually found out what happened to them she found they had died in an accident. Lucas is stunned and anguished over his mothers grief.

Carrie talks to Marlena about the feelings Lucas seems to be developing for her and the fact that she's still into Austin. Of course Lucas inconveniently arrives just after Marlena advises Carrie to tell Austin how she really feels. He drags Carrie outside and cries on her shoulder about his brother and sister that he never knew he had but now he knows but they're dead problem.

It's time for Carrie's second op and Marlena and Roman head over and pick her up. They take her to the hospital and Lucas stops by. So does Brandee and she threatens to tell Carrie the truth about Lucas's manipulations if he doesn't get her some modelling jobs at Titan.Lucas heads over to Titan where he suggests to Kate that Brandee would be a good model for the Milan shoot. Kate agrees and says she'll have her booked. Lucas runs off to tell the blonde but later Kate is told by her secretary that they've already booked someone else. Kate says oh well, she's sure it wasn't important. Meanwhile Brandee is heading off to Titan to get the details and is warning Lucas that it better pan out or Austin and Carrie will know the truth about the cabin.

Carrie has her second op. Austin has some more tests for his and Abby's op. They meet. They stare.

Carrie is already up and about and ready to go home. Lucas asks her to go to the wedding of his mother and Victor and she accepts. Brandee turns up at the hospital and tells Lucas that her name is not on the list for Milan and unless he gets it on there she's going to tell Carrie and Austin all about his little schemes. Lucas races over to Titan but Kate is getting ready for the wedding. She tells him there's nothing she can do - the contracts are sitting on the desk waiting to be signed. Lucas decides a little contract swapping is in order. However, Brandee has followed him to Titan and is preparing to tell Carrie everything.

Lucas manages to swap the contracts so that Brandee is going to Milan and stops her before she tells Carrie anything. Jenn and Austin come to pick up Jack for dinner. Jack has a whole lot of Vic's computer disks that were supposed to be destroyed and Vern is trying to crack the encoding. Jenn sees something on the screen about the Spectator and Jack thinks that this information is why Vic wants to get hold of the Spectator so quickly. They head up to the Titan Grille for dinner. The wedding takes place and Jack, Jenn and Austin walk in at the end of it.

Bo doesn't ask Billie why she's at the club, just asks her to ID Curtis as the gunman. She says it's not him and Bo ends up leaving. Curtis thanks her and buys her a beer. She doesn't want it and gets upset and tells him she hates what he's done to her - making her lie to someone she really cares about. She says she's going to tell Bo the truth, but Curtis begs her not to. Billie says she won't, on the condition that he goes to the rehab clinic. She takes him and books him in there. Later when he's there, he gets a call from Peter who tells him he might need him back in Salem soon.

Carrie and Lucas arrive back at Victor's and Lucas wants to do something special and romantic for his mother. Carrie shares her most romantic fantasy - her wedding night with candles...(usual Salem set-up). They set up a champagne supper for Victor and Kate but when they get home, Kate takes Lucas aside and tells him that he's all she has. She has been upset by Victor in the limo on the way home when he talked to his lawyer about the Spectator. She has made him promise not to fire Jack if he will recant on his threats. Lucas and Carrie leave and Kate and Victor head upstairs. There are about a thousand candles in the room and Vic says that he arranged it all, including the champagne supper - but he didn't want to disappoint the kids.

Bo goes to visit Carly's grave which Dr. Wu's men have already returned to it's former state. Meanwhile, Billie takes Curtis to the lab and tells him to stay there. He asks her to bring him back some food and she says that she will. She heads to the pub and the conversation with Austin turns to dear ol' dad. Austin says that he was a liar and a manipulator and had no redeeming qualities. Meanwhile, Bo heads for the pub where one of the cops from the station catches up with him and gives him the blown-up photos that they have from the shooting. Bo sees that the witness was Billie and he goes into the pub and wants to know why she didn't tell him. Eventually she agrees to help him (after looking totally guilty for a couple of minutes) but she says that the gunman was wearing sunglasses and a baseball cap and she didn't get a good look at him. Dr. Wu and Vivian manage to persuade Lawrence to take Carly home, but he tells them that if she dies, he'll kill them both with his own hands. Back at the house, Carly shows no signs of recovering, so Dr. Wu says he'll try and find a special herb. And Vivian manages to talk Lawrence into letting her stay, at least until Carly gets better, for Nikki's sake.

Carly is all set up in the attic of the Alamain house but she's still not improved any. Dr. Wu's nurse arrives and is installed in the room next to Carly's. However when everyone leaves the room Carly starts to become restless and Vivian, Lawrence and Ivan downstairs are shocked to hear her screaming Bo's name. Billie spends the morning trying to avoid her appointment with Bo, not answering the phone at the lab. However she is just leaving when Bo catches up with her. Bo takes her down to the station where she goes through mug shots but she doesn't recognize any of them. Bo calls in a sketch artist and Billie tells him what the gunman looked like - making him look totally unlike Curtis. Meanwhile, Curtis has checked out an issue of Belle and seen who else is in town that he knows.

Billie has to sign a statement saying that she told the whole truth. With a few misgivings she does and after telling Bo that she's told him all she can, she gets out of there and heads back to the lab. However, Curtis ain't there. He does come back though and tells her that now the coast is clear, he's heading for LA. Meanwhile Bo and the rest of the Salem circus police force, figure out that the gunman might be heading for LA. Nikki comes into the house having heard the screaming. Vivian, ever the quick thinker tells him it was Cook who burnt her hand. Nikki thinks it sounded like his mother but they are quick to step on that. Later, Bo comes over and gives Nikki the journal that Carly kept when she was pregnant with him with all her hopes and dreams. Nikki is upset and tells Bo he's sorry for trying to break them up. Bo tells him it's okay. Bo is just about to leave when the nurse comes down and tells Lawrence the patient is getting harder to keep quiet. Lawrence tells him it's Vivian and they get rid of him. Lawrence bites the nurses head off and then goes upstairs to Katerina.

Bo decides to go to LA to track the gunman down. He tells Billie where he's going and later Billie finds a matchbook at the lab for an LA club. She decides she has to go there and find Curtis before Bo does.

Billie gets to LA as Bo is waiting for his baggage. She discovers he's using a false name and he's staying at the Ritz Carlton. He is picked up by an LA cop in a limousine and it becomes apparent that he's undercover as some high roller from back East. They go shopping in Beverly hills and he has a haircut. Meanwhile, Billie stops by the 'After Midnight' club, but it's empty. She heads for the Ritz Carlton and gets a maid to let her into Hank Richards room. She has heard he won't be back for a few hours and she decides to take a bath. However, the maid take sher clothes to be laundered and Bo arrives with a crime boss and suggests they go up to his suite. At La Alamain, Carly wakes in the attic and thinks that it's the past - and it's after the night in the bistro in Paris when James said he loved her.

Bo tells the mob guys that he wants to hire a hit man. They check out the suite but don't go into the bathroom. Billie overhears them talking and after they go back downstairs, she jumps out of the bath only to find that her clothes aren't there. As she's running around she manages to knock something over and there's a loud crash. The men downstairs hear the noise and head up to the bathroom. They see the bath full of water and bubbles but no-one in the room. They are about to go when one of the mob guys realizes that someone is in the bath. Bo reaches in and pulls out a rather wet Billie.

Bo tells the thugs that Billie is his girlfriend but later Malco tells Bo that he's going to have her checked out. If it pans out he'll get Bo the hitman. They go and Billie explains to Bo that her clothes are being laundered and her luggage is at the airport in a locker. Unfortunately the key is with her clothes and the laundry staff can't find it. She convinces Bo to buy her a red dress that is in the window of a boutique in the lobby and Bo tells her that she should be a model.

Bo and Billie go barhopping. Billie sees Curtis in Around Midnight and jumps up onto the stage to sing 'Makin' Whoopee'. Curtis sees her and takes off, Billie tells Bo that the gunman is not there. Later they go back to the hotel and Bo gives Billie a shirt of his to sleep in. He sleeps on the couch and she has the bed with satin sheets.

Billie has a dream where Bo is getting in the bed and saying he can't resist her and kisses her. She is woken by Bo slipping into bed and kissing her but it's because he's heard the maid. He has a shower and Billie orders another dress from downstairs. She also orders a huge breakfast and Bo finds her downstairs eating. Malco turns up and invites them to a party tonight. Bo tells them that Billie is going home but Malco tells them that he expects her to be there. Aussie the cop later tells Bo that he thinks Billie should stay. He gives Bo lists of aliases that the suspects use but Billie sees the one for Curtis and manages to secret it away as Bo gets her a margarita.

Bo tells Billie that he thinks he might be able to get LA PD to pay for her to get some new outfits so that she fits the part. They agree and Billie and Bo head for a boutique in the hotel. The woman assistant intimates that Billie won't be able to afford anything in there so Bo flashes some money around and they leave and go to Fred Haymans where they shop till they drop. Then they go shopping some more. Back at the hotel they get ready for the party and Billie comes out in a stunning long blue dress. She asks if she looks okay for the party and Bo shakes his head and tells her that no, she can't go out like that.

In LA Bo tells Billie not to go away, he'll be right back. Billie gets upset, thinking she looks awful and strips off her dress. Bo comes back to find her all upset and in her underclothes. He apologises and tells her that he thought she looked spectacular and he didn't mean to hurt her feelings. He helps her back into her dress and pulls out a necklace, telling her that's why he went off. It's diamond and sapphires and he tells her it's on loan. He puts it on her and the matching earrings and tells her she looks perfect. Billie can't wipe the grin off her face and she savours the moment, especially once he calls her a princess. They head to Malco's party where Malco dances with Billie, much to Bo and Malco's girlfriends chagrin. Malco decides to get the hired man to come and meet Bo but his girlfriend tells him not to trust them - they're phonies and she can prove it.

Billie and Bo play dumb over the bimbo's accusations and she points out that they act more like brother and sister. So they spin into a nicely choreographed dance that's supposed to prove something. What, I'm not quite sure, but I guess it looked good. Billie decides to visit the little girls room, but before she goes, Bo lays a big smacker on her, just a little more persuasion for his mate Malco. It seems to work, but alas, Billie runs into dear daddy at the lift and tells him to get out or he's in deep shtick. He gets out. Malco gets mad. Bo gets madder. Bo speaks without moving his teeth and then he and Billie skedaddle. Back at the Ritz-Carlton, Bo takes the earrings and necklace to put in the safe. But he tells Billie that they're gonna continue having fun until they catch this gunman.

Bo and Billie are having breakfast and one of Malco's men tells them he's found the hitman and he will be picking them up in an hour. Bo heads off to take the jewels back to the store and Billie tries but fails to get hold of Curtis. Bo comes back with a small pendant for Billie to thank her for all that she has done. She tries to call Curtis again but finds out he left the club half an hour ago. Malco arrives and takes them to a place where they are supposed to meet with the gunman. Vic arranges everything for the wedding and gets Kate to sign a pre-nup agreement. She tells him she's not signing over The Spectator until after they are married. Katerina sees Vivian at the door and wants her to come in and talk to her. They make small talk and then Lawrence takes Vivian outside and tells her he is going to make her pay for what she has done. He heads back inside and Katerina tells him that she had a dream about someone coming between them and it seemed so real. And then she tells him that they had a son in the dream and he was doing everything to get them back together. She wants to know why her dreams are so sad. Lawrence holds her for a while and then she starts coughing. The nurse comes in and checks on her and tells Lawrence that her only hope is Dr. Wu to get back with the healing herb. Meanwhile, downstairs, Vivian is downing the brandy and fretting about Lawrence's possible murderous tendencies. She decides that she has to get a good lawyer who can say that the herbs made her temporarily insane. Ivan mutters that maybe it was permanently insane. She promises Ivan that if he sticks by her she'll find some way to protect them both.

The gunman isn't Curtis and Billie shakes her head discreetly. Bo says that he won't do when it turns out he hasn't worked for 18 months. Malco tells him their deal is over and Bo goes back to see Ozzie. Ozzie gives him photos of Malco's contacts and says that Curtis is the only one who doesn't have an airtight alibi for that day. He also tells Bo that he is known to hang around at 'Round Midnight. Meanwhile Billie is there and finds Curtis is stoned. She threatens to turn him in but he starts crying. She tells him she'll help him and goes off to call a drug clinic. Curtis says to himself that there's no way he'll go into a drug clinic. He has another drink, but Bo comes down the stairs and says he wants to talk to him. However Billie walks out from the back and Bo sees her.

Carrie Has The First Scar Surgery/Carly Buried Alive Storyline Begins July 7 - August 6, 1993

Carrie and Lucas head on round to Roman and Marlena's and tell them that Carrie has changed her mind - she's going to try the surgery. They tell her that they will pay for the surgery as she doesn't have any insurance. They all have lunch later - Roman cooks pasta, but Sami binges on a big bowl upstairs and then throws it up. Marlena is waiting on news from the hospital but there is none yet. She calls John and tells him and Sami overhears the phone call. She tells Marlena she is going to the hospital and Marlena says that maybe she'll see her there later on.

Rebecca arrives and suggests they do something. John says that actually the sitter will be there soon, he has some personal business to take care of - some shopping. Rebecca invites herself along with him and they run into Marlena and Carrie who have been shopping for maternity wear at the mall. Marlena says she's just about to call the hospital and Rebecca says that they have to get back to work anyway. John demurs and says they have some time, why don't they sit down and have a coffee. They head off to Johnny Angels while Marlena calls the hematology lab. Frank tells her the results are in yet and when she asks about her personal code, he tells her what he's been using, of course, Sami is conveniently at the lab to hear this exchange. She asks Frank if he can give her a lesson on haematology and he gives her a text book. She takes it away and finds out John and Roman's blood types, and then works out that if the baby has type O blood both J&M are type O so then the baby is John's. However Roman is AB so if the baby is either A or B, then it's Roman's. Back at the mall, Carrie decides to Sit with John and Rebecca so Marlena sits with them. At the hospital, Sami heads back down to the lab when she sees Frank leave. In the lounge a nurse tells Frank that the bloodwork results have just been entered into the computer. In the lab Sami is checking it out.

Marlena calls the hospital and Frank tells her the blood results for the baby came up fine. She is relieved and she calls John and tells him she's going to the hospital to get the results of the blood analysis. He says he'll meet her there.

At the hospital, Sami heads for the lounge and writes in her diary. She doesn't hate her Mom but she hates what she did to her Dad. She always thought she could trust her - that she would never do anything to hurt any of them, but she did. Anyway, she says to herself, she'll know the truth now, and it's all over. It's finally over.

John finds Marlena at the chapel and she tells him that she knows that he had hope for the two of them, but she's not sure there was ever any hope. Even if this was his baby - John interrupts him and asks if she is trying to tell him this isn't his baby. She nods her head and says it's not, it's Romans. John tells her he's happy for she and Roman.

Sami is interning at Titan, working with Kate's secretary. Sami lets Kristen walk in to see Victor. She wants to thank him for the van donation and give him a sweatshirt from the Horton Centre. He invites her to stay for the meeting and suggests that they do an article on the centre in the magazine. Marlena invites Sami to come shopping with her tomorrow but Sami refuses. Kate's secretary wings into Sami for letting Kristen walk into the meeting and Sami pigs out on pastries and then runs to the restroom to be sick.

Lucas takes Carrie to the Penthouse Grille for drinks and dancing since she can't eat because she's having surgery tomorrow. He shows her a letter that (supposedly) comes from a girl who was scarred in a car accident and who was inspired by Carrie. He suggests that Carrie could write back to this girl and all the girls like her in Bella and express her feelings. Carrie ends up by agreeing to co-operate with Kate.

Carrie has her surgery and it goes well. Sami gets Austin to give her piano lessons and then tells him about Carrie's surgery. He heads down to the hospital, but finds Lucas in the room with Carrie.

Jenn goes up to the roof again and Austin follows her. They talk about Carly for a while and decide that they'll do a show showing the good side of her. Austin mentions that it's his birthday and says he'd better go as he's supposed to be meeting Billie for dinner. But the door is stuck and they can't get it open, so Jenn rummages around in her handbag and sticks a candle in a snickers bar and lights it. Austin blows out the candle, making a wish that Carrie's operation will work and then he breaks the bar in two.

Up on the roof, Austin and Jennifer get the door open, but Jenn decides she wants to stay up there a little longer. Austin teaches her how to box and then they head down. Jenn tries to call Jack again and then Tom tells her about Carly dying. Jenn and Austin go into the lounge and she cries on Austin's shoulders.

Bo stops off at the Heart where Austin and Jonah are playing pool. He has a few scotch's and then has a few swings at a guy before taking off on his bike again. Billie heads down to the Brady pub and Austin meets up with her there. She frets about Bo and he worries about her falling for Bo.

Lucas heads over to Carrie's to feed her up on chicken soup. He calls Kate and she turns up just after Billie. She offers to invest money in Billie's company but Billie turns her down. Sami turns up with Austin, but his presence upsets Carrie. Lucas tells Austin that he doesn't want to see him near Carrie again.

Lucas takes Carrie home and tries to kiss her. Carrie pulls away and says she can't. Lucas deduces that it's because she's still hung up on Austin and walks out. Carrie runs into Austin in the hall and drops her laundry. Austin asks what's wrong and Carrie tells him that everything is and she would give anything for him to hold her the way he used to. He takes her in his arms and does just that.

Carrie decides that whatever happens with the scar, nothing will change - she and Austin are still over.

Sami and Carrie help Kate set up a surprise party for Lucas, and what's more - he's actually surprised. Jamie tells Sami that the blood tests are retaken once the baby is born.

Lucas' 18th birthday party - Kate gives him the keys to the BMW and he and Carrie go for a spin, but get lost. Meanwhile Sami is busy stuffing her face with food and Jamie realizes that she's thrown it up.

Roman is going away to Washington and Marlena plans a nice night home together. Sami runs in, says she can't stop and she's not hungry, grabs her volunteers uniform and heads for the hospital. Marlena tells Roman that Sami has been distant lately and she doesn't know why. They happen to be looking at the shopping list and discover that Sami has been ordering lots of junk food. Marlena assumes that it's for when friends come around so she will have food to offer them. At the hospital,

Jamie finds Sami stuffing her face with donuts and accuses her of being bulimic. Sami says that she can stop it any time she wants. Jamie tells Sami that her sister Heather was bulimic and it almost killed her. She encourages Sami to talk to Marlena. Sami says she'll deal with her own problems. Roman comes in just them and asks what problems. Sami says just scheduling stuff and Roman tells her that he's going away and then asks her to try and make an effort with her mother. Sami promises that she'll try.

They head home and Marlena suggests that Sami and Roman spend some father/daughter time together, playing 'basketball'. Sami suggests Marlena keep score, which makes Marlena really happy. Marlena and Sami end up playing against Roman who lets them win.

Roman goes out to get some iced tea and Marlena thanks Sami for spending some time with her and they hug. However, later Sami is writing in her diary and says that she can never forgive John and Marlena and she doesn't know how she'll get through this. She heads over to her drawers and pulls out a donut and starts eating.

Carrie comes over to Marlena's to help her get breakfast for her and Sami. Carrie leaves and thinks maybe there is something she can do for Marlena and Sami. Sami comes down and says she'll stay for breakfast but then reverses and says she has to go out. She heads upstairs and Marlena is upset, but then Carrie and Caroline arrive for a makeover day and persuade Sami to stay. They do the makeover/spa thing, Caroline and Marlena tell Sami about how when she was a colicky baby Marlena would drive her around in the car, talking to her of her dreams for her future. Sami says that she hopes she hasn't let her down too much. Marlena tells Sami that she could never let her down. Jamie arrives and they invite her to stay. Sami goes across with Jamie to get her own make-up and Marlena tells Carrie and Caroline that she doesn't think this is standard teenage behaviour. Caroline advises Marlena to trust Sami and maybe Sami will trust her. Outside, Jamie is trying to talk Sami into not being so hostile towards Marlena. They do the makeovers and decide to go out to lunch. Carrie and Caroline are planning something in the meantime.

Carrie and Caroline take Sami and Marlena to Alice's suggesting that they ask Alice to go with them. Marlena is not sure but knocks on the door. Alice calls out that it's open and they go inside. Marlena is surprised to find that they are holding a baby shower for her. Later on Sami does the binge and purge thing again and Jamie threatens to tell Marlena.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Carly confronts Vivian and works out that she's been killing her patients. She can't work out how Viv is walking and keeps muttering that she should be paralyzed. Vivian says a will and the herbs helped. She tells Carly about her original plan to frame her for her death and says that she doesn't mind going to hell as long as she can take Carly with her. The phone rings but Vivian, holding the syringe won't let Carly answer it. They have a struggle and Vivian drops the syringe as Carly manages to incapacitate her (or so she thinks). She turns her back on Vivian (big mistake) to check on Caroline and call security and Vivian comes at her with the syringe. Carly struggles but Vivian stabs her in the arm with it and Carly sinks to the floor as she loses consciousness. Viv hightails it back to her room and Ivan helps her get into bed.

Alice finds Carly in Caroline's room and calls Bo (who is with Roman at the Cheatin' Heart). They rush to the hospital to find that Carly is being taken to ICU - there was morphine in that there syringe. Ivan overhears the conversation and Vivian works out that the syringe with the morphine must have fallen out of her pocket in the struggle and that was the one she stabbed Carly with. The security men find the other syringe on the floor and Tom, Roman and Bo are even more astounded to find out that it contained cleaning fluid. Vivian realizes that she may just have found a way to frame Carly for the deaths. As long as the good doctor never wakes up again.

At the hospital, things are beginning to look more and more like they are suspecting Carly of killing her patients. They give her something to counteract the morphine and hope it works. Bo decides he will find something to prove Carly's innocence and heads off to find her diary - the diary that Vivian has just forged an entry in. Bo is shocked when he reads that Carly thinks Caroline might die a painful death and she can't let her suffer like that.

Billie comes across Bo in the lounge. He's holding onto Carly's diary and is confused. He tells Billie that Carly would never try to kill anyone, let alone his mother. Billie doesn't want to say it but tells him how upset Carly was when Caroline suggested they delay the wedding plans. Bo goes to see Caroline who confirms it. Mickey tells Bo that Mrs. Levin's lawyer has permission from the DA to exhume Woodrow's body and do an autopsy. Bo ends up handing the diary over to Mickey as Mickey comes back with the results of the autopsy. They found the same chemical in his body as in the syringe in Caroline's room. Mickey says this changes everything - now they're talking about murder. Bo gets this wide-eyes totally gormless look on his face as he comprehends what Mickey is saying.

Vivian works out how to silence Carly permanently. She gets Ivan to get another syringe full of morphine and orders him to contact Mr. Wu. Dressing up as a nurse, she goes down to Carly's room, but finds Lawrence inside, distraught and telling her he loves her. He gets up and walks away and from the door, Vivian sees Carly's fingers move.

The evidence against Carly mounts and Vivian calls WTGB to make sure the rumours get out to the press. Bo wants to head the investigation but Roman says he can't , it would look like a whitewash. But nevertheless, Bo decides to take it on himself to start investigating.

Ivan tells Lawrence there's a call for him and it's urgent and Vivian injects the morphine into Carly's IV. She gets back to bed and says it's all running wonderfully. Outside the room, Bo and Lawrence are arguing, but Lawrence opens the door and Bo sees Vivian's head flop back down.

Bo and Lawrence want to know if Vivian has moved before and while Ivan stammers, Vivian slowly opens her eyes. She pretends to be coming round and tells them that she remembers Carly threatening to kill her. Bo and Lawrence can't believe it but Vivian has planted the seeds of doubt. Ivan brings Dr. Wu and Vivian offers him a large uncut diamond (where did she gets that, the jade was the last thing she owned recently) in return for a herb called the sleeping death. She gets Ivan to slip into Carly's room with the herb.

Lexie turns up at the hospital and tells Bo they have to do a cursory search of the house. Of course they do and find the cleaning fluid that Vivian had planted there (and Carly had picked up only days before). Bo heads back to the hospital and goes to see Carly, telling her she has to wake so she can explain this (sounds like he's starting to doubt her). But then the monitor blips and flatlines and Bo starts screaming for a nurse.

The resuscitation team come in but they eventually give up. It takes a while for it to sink through Bo's mind that Carly's dead and after Alice tries to talk him into staying with her and Tom, he runs off. Billie follows him to the house where he rips the bedroom apart till he finds his bike keys. Billie tries to stop him but he doesn't care if anything happens Meanwhile, Lawrence is told and he sobs in a supposedly sympathetic Vivian's arms.

Lawrence tells Nikki the bad news about his mother and the kid doesn't take it well. He heads down to the funeral home where he tells Katerina he will always love her. Then he goes back to the house and falls on his knees in misery. The black widow Vivian heads down to the funeral home where she tells Carly that she's the only one who knows Carly is not really dead. Carly's inner voice whispers "Vivian."

John hears about Carly's death on the radio and goes down to the pub. He realizes that Bo is probably at Green Oaks and heads out there. He talks to Bo for a while and calms him down. Bo is still devastated. Victor hears and goes down to the pub but Shawn tells him the Brady's take care of their own. Mickey goes to visit Lawrence to arrange Carly's burial. Vivian, having discharged herself from the hospital arrives home to help Nikki through this devastating time. She tells Lawrence that it was Carly's wish to be buried under a shady tree and she didn't want to be embalmed. Lawrence heads down to the funeral home where Carly is busy talking to herself inside her head but nobody can hear her. Lawrence tells her how much he loves her and then leaves as Carly is saying I'm alive in her own little nightmare world.

Jenn and Jack go to the funeral home to see Carly. She is trying to tell them she's alive but they leave, Jenn crying. They go back to the house but while Jenn is upstairs, Kate turns up and tells Jack to meet her at the airport in half an hour, they have to go to Chicago for an important Spectator meeting. She leaves and Jack follows her to Titan. He tells her he can't go as he has to be there for Jenn who is burying her best friend today. Kate tells him she needs him too, in fact she close to throws a temper tantrum and threatens Jack with selling the paper to Victor unless he comes. Jack goes home and tells Jenn he has to go to Chicago if he wants to keep his job. Jenn can't believe he is going. Meanwhile Billie turns up at Kate's office and eventually accepts her offer. Bo isn't back and the funeral is having to take place today because Carly's body is not being embalmed. The Brady's try to talk Lawrence out of having the funeral before Bo gets back but Lawrence says it's out of his hands. They all head down the hospital as the service is being held in the chapel. Vivian and Ivan head to the funeral home to dress Carly. Ivan is balking big time, he thinks what Viv is doing is monstrous but Viv tells him if she goes down, then so does he and she has money and ways to get out of the country. They dress Carly and do her makeup and then Lawrence arrives to take Carly to the hospital for the service.

It's the day of Carly's funeral and she's in an open casket at the hospital chapel. Austin turns up at Jenn's to see how she's doing and she tells him Jack has gone off. Austin says he'll come with her. Lexie is clearing out Carly's locker and finds a ripped black sweatshirt in a rubbish bin in the locker room. She realizes it could belong to the Pacifier and that he might work at the hospital. At the chapel the service begins, people get up and talk about Carly. Jenn, Marlena, John and Shawn. People go up and say their last goodbyes and Bo arrives. He goes up to put his jade ring on her finger but gets a shock when he realizes she's still warm. Although no-one seems to have an explanation for it or even want to check if he's right they get him to sit back down. He sits in a back pew and continues to look as if he has a bowel obstruction. Vivian gets up to say something and then whispers to Carly that shortly they are going to bury her alive. The whole time Carly is screaming out that she's alive. Eventually, the service ends and everyone leaves for the cemetery.

Carly's burial. Lawrence stands up and talks about her. When he's finished, everyone is about to leave and Bo says he needs to see her one last time. Viv is freaking out because Carly is due to wake up and start moving at any moment. Bo talks about Carly and then eventually they put the lid back on the casket and everyone leaves but Bo and Billie. Bo still can't believe that Carly's dead. Billie gives him a rose to put on the casket and tells him if he wants to talk, she's there. He tells her he just wants to be alone so she goes. He tells Carly that she broke her promise to him to grow old with him. He eventually leaves and Vivian and Ivan, who have been circling the block in a limo, arrive back in time for Carly to be buried. Carly's eyes pop open just in time to hear the earth being piled on the casket. After the grave is filled in Viv gets down to ground level and rolls around on top of the grave, telling Carly she did it for Lawrence. Carly wakes up totally and a red light comes on, enabling her to see where she is. She begins to bang and claw at the lid as Vivian above her laughs maniacally. In Chicago, Jack and Kate pull off the deal. Kate pulls out all the stops, trying to find reasons for Jack to stay, but Jack leaves and rents a car to get back to Salem.

Bo dreams that Carly is still alive. Caroline wakes him and he decides he has to get out of there. Meanwhile, Billie saw the gunman and the gunman saw Billie. She stows away on Bo's boat and as Bo is setting sail he thinks he hears Carly's voice. She is screaming - in her grave!

Bo and Billie talk about Carly, guilt and fathers. Vivian torments Carly via the two way radio. Victor visits the slightly psychotic Vivian in need of herbs and tells her he doesn't want her to leave town.

The wake continues at the pub. Rebecca warns Kristen off John, but Kristen tells the witch that even if she was interested in John, she wouldn't go after him. Rebecca follows her outside and they argue. Kristen tells Rebecca that she is trying to keep her patience. John gets involved and a gunman is aiming at the trio. A shot is fired and Rebecca is hit They take her o the hospital where Tom says she'll be alright.

Carly begs Vivian to let her go, saying that she'll play dead and leave town but Viv refuses. Nikki and Lawrence come in from a ride fighting. Nikki goes upstairs and Lawrence tells Vivian that Carly's death is tearing him apart. He doesn't think he'll be able to go on. Later Vivian gives Ivan the radio to put away. Ivan drops it and it turns on. Carly begs him to dig her up, not realizing he helped Vivian. However Ivan is feeling pretty guilty about all this, but Vivian discovers him with the radio.

Vivian tells Carly not to count on Ivan, and also tells her that Bo has gone away. Carly says she will count on Lawrence then. Vivian says that she has a surprise for Carly, she's going to set up a little entertainment to show her how quickly they have gotten over her. They set up a tea party and Vivian switches the radio so that Carly can hear them, but they can't hear her. However, Vivian's plan backfires as Nikki gets really upset over Carly's death. Lawrence takes him upstairs and Vivian wonder's what she's done. She tales some more herbs - the last of what she has and tells Ivan to get some more. The irrationality takes over again and she tells Ivan that Carly is going to die.

Billie has a nightmare that someone is chasing her, but she won't tell Bo about what happened. The gunman however, tracks her down and while Bo is gone, jumps out at her in the woods. She runs, with flashlight in hand until he catches up with her. She hears him laugh and shines the flashlight in his face. She begins to shake her head, repeating "No. No way." Until she says "No way Daddy, you're dead. No. No." Curtis doesn't really explain a whole lot to Billie, other than telling her he was the gunman and he was forced to do it or she and Austin would be killed. He tells Billie that he needs help and she's the only one that can help him but she runs back to the campsite where Bo tells her about the shooting which was on the radio. However, she doesn't say anything.

Carly begs Ivan to let her out but Vivian catches him again. Nikki has a nightmare and won't be comforted, he just wants his mother. Ivan tells Vivian that she can end Lawrence and Nikki's suffering right now if only she'll tell them but Viv refuses. Later Ivan gets hold of the radio again. Carly has run out of water and is running out of oxygen. She begs Ivan to get her out saying that if he doesn't, he'll hear her gasping for breath and pleading with him, every day of his life. However, Vivian catches him, yet again, and tells Carly that this is the last time they will talk. Meanwhile, Ivan has filled the empty herb bottle with tea. Vivian has a nightmare that Carly is choking her and when she wakes up, Lawrence comes downstairs and says he dreamt about Carly too - this time she was calling his name. Vivian lies and tells Lawrence that she dreamt that Carly was saying goodbye, telling her to let go. Lawrence says yes they should, bit he's finding it so hard.

Nikki gets a picture of he and Carly that she sent before she 'died'. He gets upset and Lawrence takes him upstairs and Ivan brings the radio to tell Vivian that Carly is still alive. Viv just wants more herbs. Ivan puts some of the 'herbs' in her tea but Vivian says that they taste different. Ivan tells her that he used another brand of tea and that's why it tastes different. Nikki comes down and tells Vivian that Lawrence is taking Carly's death pretty hard and asks what they can do to help. Later, Vivian takes the herbs straight and discovers that they're not the herbs at all, she's going through withdrawal. Ivan says that he's trying to help her because the herbs are driving her insane but Viv demands that he go and get some more.

Bo and Billie head back to Salem and Bo heads to the station and gets on the shooting case. Billie goes to tell Austin about Curtis but Jenn is with him. Jenn has told Austin that Bella wants to do a cover story on them and Austin tell Billie that if Curtis were alive, that would ruin both their lives. Carly is close to running out of air and Vivian is close to the herbs wearing off. Lawrence overhears Vivian mention the plan and she tells him she's planning a trip to Europe. They tell Nikki that they're going tomorrow but her throws a tantrum and refuses to leave his mother. Viv can't take it anymore and tells Lawrence that Carly is still alive. Lawrence doesn't believe her and she reminds him of the night he saw her dressed as a nurse. Ivan confirms her story and gives Lawrence the radio, but Carly is already unconscious.

Billie goes down to see Bo at the station and convinces him to come to her place and she'll make him dinner. However, when she gets home, Curtis is there. He tells her he needs her help, somewhere to stay and explains how it is that he's still alive. Bo turns up and Curtis scoots into a bedroom and Bo offers to make Billie something to eat since she hasn't gotten anything. They make dinner and then he finally goes. Curtis works out that Billie is in love with Bo. He's about to leave when Billie tells him she might have somewhere for him to stay. She goes to check it out and he calls someone and says that if John and Kristen get close they all know what will happen.

Lawrence tries to call the police but Vivian tells him that they only thing that can save Carly is an antidote and Western medicine will kill her. Dr Wu arrives and confirms this and they all race down to the cemetery. Lawrence and Ivan dig the earth out of the grave but Carly looks pretty lifeless when they get her out. However, Lawrence feels a slight pulse and starts giving her the kiss of life. Meanwhile, Bo has decided to visit Carly's grave.

Brandee Story Starts/Marlena Chooses Roman June 7 - July 6, 1993

Roman tells Austin about his deal with Carrie and tells him that he has decided that he is not going to make Carrie live up to it. He has realized that Carrie needs Austin right now. Carrie goes to Carrie and tells her that he know the truth and tells her what Roman said. He says that now there's no reason for them to be apart. She says there is and she tells him that it's the scar. Austin says that the only thing that's keeping them apart is how she feels about herself.

Sami starts on a major diet - starving herself and exercising a lot.

Carrie gets her prize for the Face of the '90's, she gets a trip to Europe as weel as all over the US, but she has to make personal appearances. Carrie is not happy and heads down to Titan to tear into Kate. Caroline concidentally turns up and she and Carrie talk in private in Kate's office. However, it's not private as Lucas is listening to them on the phone. Later he finds Carrie and talks to her about her scar.

Roman goes to see Carrie and they talk about Austin. Carrie tells Roman that he did her a favour because it never would have worked between she and Austin. Roman is concerned that she feels this way, and even more so when she tells him she is planning on not having this surgery. But he tells her he trusts her to do what makes her happy and she hugs him and tells him she loves him.

Lucas hassles Sami about her weight while Austin is around and he rushes to her defence and tells Lucas to get lost. Later Lucas tells Sami he was just saying those things to test Austin's reaction and Austin is going to be a night in shining armor. He decides that Austin needs a bigger challenge though and they organize to go down to the lake, getting Jamie to tell Austin that she is worried for Sami's safety. Later Sami and Austin are driving back from the lake, disappointed that the plan didn't work. But they don't realize that Austin is driving out there. Lucas wants another beer and he reaches into the back seat to get one, swerving into the road of the oncoming traffic.

Sami and Lucas hit the back of Austin's car. The cops come and Lucas spins some story about there being a deer on the road. Austin tells the cop Lucas is lying and he gets taken back to Victors. The cops can't press charges but Victor tells Lucas that he will have to pay for the damage to the car himself. Lucas swears he is going to make Austin pay and he goes to find him. He is just taking Sami home and Lucas takes a swing at him.

Carrie comes home just as Austin ducks another swing from Lucas. Lucas ends up with a fat lip from the ground. Carrie thinks Austin was initiating the fight and Lucas lies and tells her he didn't want to fight. Austin leaves in huff cos Carrie doesn't believe him and Carrie fixes up Lucas' lip. Later she asks Sami what really happened but Sami tells her she didn't see - She was getting her keys out of her bag.

Lucas hit apon a way to get Carrie and a new car. He tells Kate that he'll do a deal with her - if he gets Carrie to agree to accept the Face of the '90's prizes, Kate will buy him a new BMW. Kate tells him she will think about it. She heads over to the Horton Center and donates some money. While Alice is getting a cup of tea, Kate goes through her address book and writes something down. Later Alice shows her pictures of her children and when Alice is called away, Kate slips one out one of the photos and puts it in her purse.

Sami tells Jamie about her Mom and John.

The new title sequence arrives! (June 29)

Everyone got together at the Hortons to get the community centre finished. Lucas brought by a model called Brandee. She spends all night trying to chat up Austin while Lucas sucks up to Carrie in the back yard.

Lucas schemes with Brandee to get Austin up to lookout point (where all the kids park). Sami sees Brandee gorging herself at the housewarming party (after she told Sami she eats nothing to stay so thin) and Sami discovers her vomiting in the toilet later on. Meanwhile Lucas turns up at Carrie's apartment and asks her out on a date. She refuses but he ends up coming in. Later he goes out for a pizza and comes back with a tandem bicycle. He suggests that they go somewhere where there is a great view of Salem and Carrie says that would be lookout point.

Carrie and Lucas head up to Lookout Point but they catch Austin there kissing Brandee in his car. Carrie wants to go but they don't get far before a chain comes off the bike. It's getting close to raining, Austin can't get the top up and Brandee is afraid of getting her hair wet so they head home. But they run across Carrie and Lucas. Austin wants to take them home but Carrie doesn't want to get in the car with them - so Lucas borrows Austin's tool kit, fixes the bike and they ride home.

Jenn gets a call from Bill who is in Somalia, but the connection is bad and she can't ask him about the medical history she wanted for Abigail.Jenn talks to Austin about it and decides that she can't rely on second hand information and that she'll have to go to the source. Austin ends up going with her down to Chicago where she goes to an institution to see her mother.

Lucas tries to talk Carrie into the surgery telling her he wants her to be happy. She tells him he's just like everyone else and what's in it for him?

Roman is cooking burgers and Carrie talks to Lucas who tells her he wants her as a friend and tells her she can't keep being scared for the rest of her life.

Sami follows Marlena back and when she sees John turn up with Brady, she starts stuffing her face with burgers. Jamie tells her she is glad to see her eating but then she says she guesses if she had the problems that Sami has she would eat everything in sight. Sami tells Jamie she loves her dad and doesn't want to see him get hurt and as much as she hates Marlena and John for what they've done, she loves them too and doesn't want to see them hurt either. Later when she realizes she's eaten 4 plates of food, she panics. She says that as much as her life is out of control, she will have Austin and she will be thin - like Brandee. Then she realizes that to get rid of the food, she has to throw up.

Carrie runs across a disconsolate Sami and asks her if she's sick. Sami says no but everything is terrible and then goes on to say she looks horrible and she's huge. Carrie tells her that she's not - she's very pretty and still growing up. They talk about Lucas and Carrie tells Sami that since she has talked to Lucas she is thinking about going ahead with the surgery. Later she falls asleep on the couch and has a dream about she and Austin after the surgery. She is woken by the phone - it's Lucas and she tells him she's going to call and make an appointment with the plastic surgeon tomorrow.

John and Kristen argue some more. John discovers that Kristen is reading War and Peace in Russian. They reminisce about the times they spent (separately) in Paris.... (since when did John remember this stuff?) Eventually John lets Kristen have the bed and wanders outside to talk to IzzyB about his dilemma with Marlena and the baby. He is interrupted by Kristen screaming from inside, begging someone not to shoot.

Rebecca goes to see Marlena at the hospital and tells her how happy she is about Mar's pregnancy and how it's helped her resolve some issues with John. Marlena isn't terribly receptive and has to leave. Rebecca stays behind and uses the phone and a nurse comes in and thinks she'd Marlena. The nurse gives her the schedule for Lamaze classes and says that since she is due in November, her classes will start in September.

At the party/recital, Rebecca overhears Marlena say that the baby is due in October. After Roman goes off she comes over and asks Marlena what the story is - at the hospital she overheard a nurse say that the baby is due in November. Marlena looks positively sick as she tells Rebecca that it is a mistake, and Kim, who is there tells Rebecca that she needs to Talk to Marlena. Kim asks Marlena what she is going to do - this is getting too dicey and Roman is going to find out and tell John. Roman comes back and suggests that perhaps he and Marlena go with Kim to Europe for a holiday. Marlena isn't that keen but Kim says it's a wonderful idea. Marlena tells Roman that she wants to go home and he takes her Kim follows them home and tries to talk Marlena into going with her.

Meanwhile John is donating a whole lot of baseball gear to a team that Kristen is coaching. He hangs around to let her harangue him for a while and he teaches her a few of the finer points of baseball . Rebecca eventually comes down and reminds him about the party. They turn up and Rebecca noted that Marlena isn't there. She tells John about the conversation they had and asks what difference does it make if the baby was conceived in January or February. John of course knows exactly what difference it would make. He heads for the pay-phone and calls the Brady residence. Kim answers the phone and John asks to talk to Marlena.....

Marlena sends Roman off to the kitchen to get her some ice-cream and asks Kim to tell John that she's asleep. John tells Kim to get Marlena to call him in the morning. He tells her that he's going on a business trip and needs to know the due date of his godchild. Kim says that sure she'll get Marlena to call him. Roman comes back out, bringing out Sami who mentions her diet. Roman and Marlena are not thrilled. Kim says she has to go get ready and they tell Kim they'll let her know what they decide and she heads off home. Sami asks them what that was about - are they going away? They tell her that they may be. They discuss the diet more and Sami gets short with Marlena. Marlena tells her that being hungry can do that and she hopes it doesn't let it affect her relationship with her friends and family. Sami shoots back that Marlena is a fine one to be talking about affecting the family and runs upstairs. Roman asks Marlena what that was about and Marlena puts it down to hungriness.

Later, upstairs, they make the decision to go to London. Later when Roman is asleep, Marlena is by the window and feels the baby moving. She thinks that it's father should feel this but then wonders who the father is. Meanwhile over at the loft John is working out that if the baby is due in November it was conceived early Feb and it could be his baby. He spends most of the night pacing around over it and falls asleep in a chair. Rebecca wakes him with a cup of coffee and asks him if he wants to talk about it. He says no - he just gets restless sometimes. He asks her what time it is and she tells him almost 7:30 am. He tells her he has a really important appointment and she goes off to do Brady's bottle. He tries to call Marlena's place but Marlena is the only one that hears the phone and she ignores it. Roman comes in and tells her he has some bad news, an important case he has been working on has had a break and he needs to stay in Salem. However he convinces her to go. Marlena tries to patch things up with Sami and Sami apologises, saying that she was starving. They hug and then Sami says she has to go up and dry her hair. She wishes her mother a good trip and adds on that she should forget about everything around here. And everyone She leaps up the stairs and Marlena turns around shocked, wondering if Sami knows. After they leave for the airport, John swings by the Brady house and Sami tells him where Marlena has gone. She asks if it is important and John tells her his excuse for wanting to know the due date. Sami tells him it's October of course and then practically shuts the door in his face. At the airport, Marlena tells Kim about the phone ringing and says that she hopes the plane isn't delayed. Kim agrees that they will feel a lot better once they are in the air.

Kristen manages to hammer her wrist while putting up a sign outside the door of the Hortons
Tom puts some ice on it and gives her the directions to the Horton cabin, telling her she needs some rest. Alice overhears them and tells John later that he looks like he needs a break, giving *him* the address of the Horton cabin. So John and Kristen both turn up there later on in the day.

John and Kristen argue at the cabin and then John manages to get her to eat some of his food. However this doesn't win Kristen over. But then John takes a shower outside and Kristen has a good eyeful.

John wakes Kristen but she doesn't want to talk about the dream. It's hot so they both go for a swim in the lake. John notices that Kristen's bracelet has the initials K.D. but Kristen tells him it was her mothers. They talk about her work with children but the fact that she doesn't want to have any, and John tells her about Isabella and the nightmares he used to have after she died. But after John walks away she says that she can never open up to him like that again. Then later on she slips (I think it's) the bracelet into her bag while John is sleeping.

John and Kristen prepare to catch the ferry but Kristen realizes John has left his watch behind. She sees the inscription and wonders.

Marlena and Kim fly back from Europe, both worried about what John is going to do. Marlena tells Kim that she doesn't know if she can keep lying to him. When they get to the hospital, Kim gets a message to say that Jeannie has just broken out with the measles. Marlena is shocked but quickly says that it is the second trimester of her pregnancy and she should be fine - but she'll call Dr. Morgan. Sami comes up and tells her that John was trying to get hold of her but Marlena hides her worry well. Later, Sami and Jamie overhear her in the staff lounge on the phone. She is thanking someone for flowers she has received and says she missed him and can't wait to see him. Sami is relieved when she says "Roman, you don't have to make me dinner. Jamie goes and Sami heads into the room to see Marlena. She asks if Marlena has spoken to John yet and Marlena tells her that Tom said he was out of town. Just then John pops his head round the door and says he'd like to have a word to Marlena.

However, Sami walks to where John can see her and asks what he wants to talk to her Mom about. Fade out on Marlena's stunned face.

John tells Sami that he wants to talk to Marlena about an article for Bella. Sami says that he is surprised that he didn't mention that the other day when he was looking for Marlena. She says he seemed much more interested in when the baby was due. Marlena says that's because he's the baby's godfather. They are interrupted by Roman, come to surprise Marlena and take her home. He goes off to check on something and Sami gets called out by Tom to call Alice about schedules. Marlena goes to follow Roman out but John grabs her arm and tells her they need to talk. He needs to know the truth. She says she can't and won't talk to him now and he leaves. Sami and Jamie are surprised to see him Go. Marlena and Roman head off to the party and eventually John turns up at the pub to collect Brady's playpen. Shawn is shutting up and tells him about the party and invites him. At the party, Marlena goes outside to get some air and John finds her there. He says that she has to stop lying to him, he has to know the truth. This baby wasn't conceived in January was it. She turns away from him and he asks again, was it. Eventually she shakes her head and he asks her when. She whispers that it was February. Then, John says, this baby could be mine. After a long moment, a tear slips down Marlena's cheek and she silently nods her head.

John says so he was right. If she conceived in February, the baby could be his. She nods and says that it could, but she told him already that her life is with Roman, no matter how she feels about John. She tells him if Roman finds out about this, he'll be destroyed and so will her family. John says he isn't out to hurt anybody and Marlena begs him to leave this alone. She tells him they made a mistake, making love was a mistake and now they have to forget about it. John exclaims that if this is his child it will be kind of *impossible* to forget about won't it? Meanwhile inside Roman asks Kim where Marlena is and Kim offers to go outside to find her. Marlena thinks that maybe John's right. Maybe it's unrealistic to think that they could ever forget what happened between them. John reaches out and brushes her shoulder and hair. She jumps and he says 'maybe Doc?" With tears in her eyes, she turns and tells him that alright, she can never forget what happened between them, but they can't dwell on it. John's not talking about dwelling, he's talking about a baby that maybe they created together. She jumps in and says that maybe she and Roman made it together. John says he's just trying to do what's right but he doesn't know why it feels so wrong. He says maybe she's right, after all, they only made love once in the time frame they're talking about, so Roman stands a better chance of being the father than he does...unless she and Roman.... She blurts out that she and Roman have a perfectly norm.... She's in tears and she cries that she doesn't want to have these conversations with John as she walks away from him. He asks her if there's a test she can have right now to determine whether he is the father or not. Marlena pauses for a moment, wipes her face and walks back to him. She says that there is a test that gives the baby's blood profile. He tells her to take the test and settle it once and for all. Marlena says that actually Dr. Morgan wanted her to take the test anyway because she was exposed to rubella. John says she *what*. She explains that Jeannie had the measles. John says then that's even more reason to take the test - the baby could be affected. Marlena smiles and says not necessarily - *she* didn't come down with symptoms so it's unlikely the baby will have been affected at all.. John wants to know what that means...she's *not* going to take the test. She begins to tear up again and says she doesn't know how he can keep *asking* her to take it. He says what does she mean, he has every right in the world to ask her to take it, this could be his child here. This could be their child. Kim comes to interrupt them to say that Roman is looking for Marlena and to say goodbye to them. Marlena walks her inside after telling her about the conversation with John. Kim says goodbye to everyone (she's heading to L.A. to be with Phillip who'd directing a feature.) She eventually goes but just after she does, Caroline collapses. She's having bad chest/stomach pains and they rush her to the hospital. Once there Carly takes her off for some tests and John follows Marlena into the lounge. He tells her that she can avoid him all she wants but they have to come to a decision. She says she made her decision when she decided to lie about when the baby was conceived. He says that because she lied, that decision is not acceptable to him. He needs to know if the baby is his. She says that Roman is coming to pick her up soon so she simply can't talk about this now. John asks when. Marlena says she doesn't know when. He says that she won't be able to sleep till this is resolved so he decides that she can meet him some time tonight. She says no, but he says yes, he *chooses* to meet with her some time tonight.

Kristen talks to some guy who is watching over her and then runs into John.

At the hospital, John pressures Marlena about meeting with him. She says she doesn't want to sneak around anymore, she won't sneak out to meet him. John says alright then, they will go to her office. But Kristen interrupts and then Roman comes by. He's been paged and has to go to the station. John offers to give Marlena a ride home but she says no, she'll grab a lift with Carly. Later John calls her at home from the hospital. He says she has to have the test so that they can make a decision about what to do. She tells him that she already made her decision in Paris...she is going to bring this baby up as Roman's, whoever's it is. It deserves the best start in life and it can only get that in a family with a father and brothers and sisters. John asks what if Brady is it's real brother. Marlena can't even think about that. John says she's going to though, every time she looks at him, or Brady, she's going to wonder. She says it's no use, she has made her decision and she is sticking by it. She hangs up on him but a short while after, he turns up at her door. He won't leave and they go out into the back yard. John says she has to have the test. Surely she wants to know if this baby is Roman's and then they wouldn't have to have this conversation any more. She says but what if it isn't. What if it's that one in a million chance and it's yours? What will you do? John says he won't know till he's faced with that, but they have to know. Eventually he gets Marlena to agree and she says she will have the tests done as soon as possible. What they don't know is that Sami is hiding in the bushes and hearing a great deal of this conversation. Then Roman's car pulls up and Marlena panics and asks John to go. He does and she goes into the kitchen and gets some cold chocolatey gooey stuff . She comes into the living room and asks Roman why he's home so early. He says they wrapped up the case early. Sami comes in and stares at Marlena. They ask her what she's doing home, and she says that Bo and Carly came home early, so she thought she'd come home. Roman asks her if something is wrong and she starts off saying that she heard....then she says she heard that Nikki Alamain was a brat and tonight he proved it. Marlena wants to know if anything else is wrong, if she's eating sensibly. Sami says she is and she's just tired and then she heads up to bed.

Marlena is at the opening and John turns up. He tries to talk to her but Sami interrupts and takes Marlena upstairs to get ideas for their nursery. When they come back downstairs however, John is still waiting and he asks Sami if he can have a moment with Marlena in private. Sami has to go but isn't happy. John asks Marlena about the tests and she says she's having the test to determine if the baby was affected by the measles this afternoon. After that she will get the blood types and match them up then. But John realizes that this may not be enough, they may need a DNA profile. Marlena agrees and John says he wants to do it now. Marlena tells him to go to the hospital and she'll meet him there. Sami is pleased to see John leave but when Marlena also leaves she decides she has to follow them. At the hospital Marlena meets up with John and they go to her office where she draws the blood. Then they come back out to the main area and Sami (who has arrived) hides so they won't see her. Marlena sends John's blood for analysis and then tells him she has to go and have her test. John says he'll wait for her in the lounge.

Marlena and John are in the lounge, Sami is still hiding behind the door, listening. Marlena tells him that they just have to wait now. John asks her if they can't have the blood test for the baby done first and she says no, they can't arouse suspicion. She has to protect her family and Roman. She says she has to go to the 4th of July picnic, Roman is waiting for her. John tells her he and Brady are going to swing by there later on, but he's not real excited about seeing Roman. Marlena asks why, and John tells her that every time he sees Roman and her together he has a hard time - Roman's always holding her, or patting her stomach, and it's hard. Marlena tries to interrupt, but John tells her he can't help it, he's only human. He says that every time he sees her he can't help but think she could be carrying his child. He says he knows it would be better for everyone if this baby is Roman's, but he asks her if there isn't just a part of her that remembers the passion that they shared and isn't there just a small part of her that would like that passion to live on in their child. Marlena's eyes fill with tears and she can't say anything for a moment. Meanwhile Sami listens on and shakes her head. John asks Marlena if there isn't just a small part of her that wants the baby to be his. Marlena tells him she can't even think about that. John points out that as much as she wants this baby to be Roman's they can't ignore the possibility that it might not be. And if *he* isn't, John can't imagine himself walking away from his own flesh and blood. (The background music swells, the same music that plays when they were on the plane). Marlena avows that she knows it's Roman's. John says to prepare herself in case it's not. Then John says that even though he doesn't want to bring this up right now, at some stage the truth is going to come out about what happened between them and Roman and the whole family is going to know. Marlena shakes her head and says no emphatically and walks past John. She says just made a mistake and they can get past it, she knows they can. John says they're not talking about making love here, they're not talking about any kind of casual sex. If that were the case they never would have acted on their feelings. They're talking about *love*. They're talking about two people who were *married* to each other, a deep emotional connection that has never *died*. *That* is why she got together and she knows it. Marlena's eyes are filled with tears and she nods her head slowly and inhales raggedly. She tries to protest, saying it was wrong what happened. John says he's not *denying* that. He tells her he's tried to live his life as though nothing has happened, but if this child is his, he can't do that any longer. That's what Marlena's afraid of, that's why she keeps praying that it's Roman's. John says so what? That *is* her answer? Marlena wipes a tear away and gives a rueful smile, shaking her head. John asks her again if that's her answer. She turns to him and says "I love being married to you. I love being your wife." But she loves Roman and she's made that choice now. She belongs with him *and* with her children. And John is going to have to accept that and respect that. And what if this child is theirs, John asks. Marlena gets more upset and says until the blood tests are in they can't even speculate about that. She says she has to go no and tries to walk to the door. John grabs her and stares at her face. In tears she has she has to go now and she pushes past him and leaves the room. John follows her out and Sami walks into the room, looking upset and nauseous.

Sami's Bulimia Storyline Begins - Kristen First Appears

May 3 - June 4, 1993

Austin tries to get Carrie to tell him she loves him after the kiss, but the girl is too determined and he doesn't succeed.

Roman calls Caroline at the Penthouse Grill and she and Carrie rush to the hospital. They are all standing around like spare parts when the Doctor comes out and asks them why nobody told him that Marlena was pregnant.

At the hospital, Carrie and Sami get Jonah and Austin in to see Marlena. She tells them about Wendy intending to go to Chicago. Lucas comes over with the flowers. Marlena sees the Lilacs and says she can't believe Kate remembered after all these years. Lucas asks if she knew Kate before but Marlena covers and says that she meant all these *weeks* - she told Kate about the lilacs at the retreat. Later Austin comes back to talk to Marlena about Carrie but Roman finds him there and is none to pleased.

Sami comes in and tells Marlena that she is sorry she didn't get anything for Mother's Day (that is, after Marlena tells her the baby is due in the fall). Marlena tells her that's okay - she's happy as long as she's there with her sweetie-girl and hugs her.

Austin and Jonah put up fliers to try and contact Wendy and she sees one.

Wendy tells the social services woman that he's her baby and she can't take him away. The others (including Abe, Lexie, Billie and Carrie) vow to help her find a job and a place to live. The social services woman agrees that Wendy deserves a chance and vows to her that social services will not fail her.

Carrie meets Lucas, Lucas falls for Carrie.

Sami invites Austin to the Spring Fling (poor guy) but he tells her she's too young. She vows to make him see that she's not and that she is the right woman for him - the only woman that will be able to help him get over Carrie. To do this she offers to help Lucas find out the truth about his Dad in return for accompanying her (in military uniform) to the dance, to make Austin jealous.

Marlena heads home where Carrie is organizing a welcome home party. However, once there, Roman asks Carrie if she picked up the cake to celebrate their Scorpio baby. Carrie is confused - she thought it was going to be a Libra baby. Roman tells them that he was talking to a nurse at the hospital who told them that their baby is going to be a Scorpio baby too and she has access to Marlena's records. Marlena tells them all it was a mix-up but John looks rather interested. Sami however, looks rather sick.

Phillip decides that Austin and Jenn can cover the Spring Fling for the show.

At the hospital, Lucas gets a copy of his birth certificate, and everything checks out. Alice remembers that Tom delivered him and then puts two and two together and realizes Kate was the woman who was beaten. Tom can't remember who it was that recommended her as a patient, but it must have been someone important as he was taking a break at that time. Alice also talks to a woman moaning about not getting a grant to keep the teen centre open. Guess who?

Lucas and Sami tried to find out the truth about his dad.

Carrie went swimming in the Horton's pool and Alice called Austin to come over. Austin and Carrie agreed to be friends.

Sami has someone at the station check out the photo of Lucas's dad. They discover it was taken at the Salem Photography Studio.

Sami and Lucas take the photo down to the studio where the young guy tells them that the man who took the photo will be in later and he will get him to have a look at it.

Carrie tells Roman that she is moving out.

Marlena and Carrie help Sami get ready for the spring fling. Sami looks gorgeous in a red off the shoulder dress that Carrie paid for. Lucas comes and picks her up in Victor's Porsche.

Roman has to take photos of his little girl before Sami and Lucas leave. But before they do, Lucas congratulates Carrie on winning the Face of the 90's contest. Sami and Lucas turn up at the Spring Fling and Sami does her best to make Austin jealous and is convinced it's working. However Austin is mooning over Carrie. Carrie runs out of the house and tracks Kate down at the dance. She is in tears and begs Kate to stop it because she thinks that everyone has voted for her out of pity.

Lucas gets the guy from the photography studio to meet him at the dance, where he tells Lucas that Kate Roberts purchased the photograph recently.

Sami manages to score a dance with Austin.

Kate takes Carrie down to her office and talks to her about the competition. Carrie is adamant that she wants to pull out of the contest and Kate calls the printers, but the mag has already gone to press. Austin comes in and tries to convince Carrie that she will get through this.

Lucas is pretty po'd at Kate and gets drunk at the dance. He heads to the lift but Sami follows him and tells him she won't let him drive. She hits a button in the elevator and they get off at Kate's floor. Lucas yells at him Mom wanting to know why she lied. She pulls him into the office and he tells her he knows about the photograph.

Carrie heads home, but Austin follows her and climbs up to her room and through her window. He tells her that he's really sorry that he didn't get her out of the competition and that she's hurting so much, but that he's also kinda glad she can't pull out of it because now everyone else will see what he sees. He tells her how incredibly beautiful she is to him and tells her that he will go if she gives him a kiss. She agrees grudgingly, but it soon becomes willing as they sink to her bed. However she shoots upright when she hears a car and realizes that Roman is home.

Roman comes up and knocks on Carrie's door. Carrie leaves Austin behind in her bedroom and goes out to talk to her father. She asks Roman to get her out of the Face of the 90's contest and Roman agrees that if it's that important to her he will try. However he still isn't happy about Carrie moving back into her apartment and Austin overhears him mention something about his and Carrie's deal. Carrie goes back to her room and sends Austin home, adamant that it's over.

Kate and Lucas fight, Kate tells him that he was illegitimate and she doesn't know his real father's name. Lucas tells Kate that he's not going back to military school, or Westpoint and he's staying here in Salem or she'll never see him again.

Kate is afraid to tell Lucas the truth about his father. Lucas suspects that she still may be lying and tells her he will never love her again if she is. Kate goes to see Marlena who encourages her to tell Austin the whole truth.

Carrie moves back into her own apartment. Marlena is worried about how she is going to cope with Austin next door, but Carrie promises that she will be fine. However Austin has a plan to get her back - he's bought himself a new piano and after Carrie gets back to the apartment, she hears him playing.

Billie manipulates the situation so Austin and Carrie are left together baby-sitting Benjamin. All is going well until the pizza delivery guy stops by and makes a comment about how beautiful Carrie is but then stares when he notices her scar. Lucas takes Sami to the Heart and promises to help her get Austin. He is fancying Carrie and is surprised to find out that she's still a virgin. But he picks up a bimbo at the pub and leaves Sami there alone.

Billie gives Carrie an job doing her accounts for Countess Wilhelmina and Jenn offers to lend them her laptop for a while. Kim comes by and is told another Brady secret. Carrie tells her about her and Roman's deal - but Kim thinks that she is using that for an excuse.

Sami decides to go on a diet and Lucas rubs it in more when he tells her she'll have to have a great bod to get Austin to notice her.

Roman tries to fix the air-conditioning and Alice gives him some advice he doesn't want to hear - namely to change his mind about Austin - Austin and Carrie belong together. She advises him to go and talk to Austin after his show today.

Roman talks to Kim and Jennifer who both try and convince him that Austin is a changed man, but a drunk guy comes along (he's an ex-boxer) and blames Austin for ruining his career. He says that Austin wouldn't throw the fight and accuses Austin of killing Gus Bartoli. Roman walks away but Austin follows him and tells him that he thinks Roman has something to do with the wall Carrie is putting up.

Carrie goes to see Dr. Phelps. He tells her that he may be able to heal her skin with grafts but since the area is large, he will probably have to take some skin from her body. Carrie is distressed at the thought of further scars without any guarantee of her face being healed and decides that she doesn't want to go through the surgery.

____________________________________________________________________

Wendy comes back to the pier where Marlena collapses. Wendy gets a passerby to call an ambulance.

At the police station, Abe gets a call to say that a woman fitting Marlena's description has been reported. John and Roman get down to the pier and go with Marlena and Wendy to the hospital. In the Trauma Centre, the doctor wants to do a cat scan to determine the amount of trauma to Marlena's head, but when he mentions it, she mutters something about her baby.

Roman is thrilled that Marlena is preggers but the doctor explains that she could have a subdural hematoma and if that was not operated on, it would be fatal. However, a cat scan to could well harm the baby. Roman is torn and doesn't know what to do. John thinks the first consideration should be Marlena. Roman goes to talk to her and she tells him to save her baby. So then, they all head off to the chapel to pray and talk to themselves.

John sneaks into Marlena's room once Roman is gone and tells Marlena that if this is his baby he won't stay away and if it is, their bond of love will get them through anything. Marlena is upset by this. Roman comes back later for the ultrasound. The doctor says that the baby looks fine and Marlena asks Roman to go and tell everyone at the pub the good news. Once he is gone, she asks the doc to do the measurements and tell her when the baby was conceived.

It's Mothers Day and Dr. Morgan tells Marlena that her baby was conceived in early February. Marlena realizes that means she still doesn't know who the father is. When John comes in however, she lies and tells him that the baby was conceived around New Years and he couldn't be the father. John is disappointed and tells her that he felt intuitively that it was his baby She tells him that she loves him (sob) but that this is bets for all of them. He tells her to take care of herself and then leaves. She begins to cry, not knowing if she has done the right thing.

Meanwhile, John goes down to the pier and remembers the night they were both at the pier and admitted their true feelings. He finally says goodbye to Marlena as he tears up a photo of her.

Marlena is waiting for her discharge papers when John comes in and tells her and Roman that he wants to talk to them about the baby, it's really important. He tells them that when Roman came back, he couldn't let go of that life. Giving up that kind of love was too hard. But now with them making a new start with the baby, he thinks it is time he got on with his life and stayed out of theirs. He wishes them the best of luck and then leaves. Roman is surprised and tells Marlena that he feels bad about how hard he's been on John. He follows John and brings him back to the room. There he tells John and Marlena that he is sorry for the way he has tried to push John out of the family. Carrie told him how lucky he is - how he has everything that a man would want and he realized she was right. He tells Marlena that after he came back and they tried to go back to living normal lives he had a whole lot of insecurities and it didn't make it easy for them. He tells her that it was silly, but that he wasn't secure in her love for him, until the moment he found out that she was pregnant. He says he knows that he is a very lucky man and that he should never have tried to push John out of their lives. Then he drops the bombshell and asks John if he will be godfather to the child. Marlena pipes up saying that it's a lot to ask of John. Roman says he knows, but he also knows that if anything happened to him or Marlena, he knows that John would be there to look after the kids, and the new baby. After all, Carrie and the twins are good kids and that has a lot to do with John bringing them up. John says of course he would be there for them but.... A nurse interrupts to tell Roman that Dr. Horton is free and he goes out to talk to Tom about Carrie. John tells Marlena he feels just terrible. There was Roman apologizing for his mistakes when John was the one who betrayed *him*, sleeping with Marlena. He tells her he couldn't even look at Roman. Roman comes back in and asks John if he's made a decision. John thinks that maybe they should just separate this crazy mixed up relationship once and for all. Roman says that they don't have to, it works as it is. John asks to think about it some more - it's a big decision and then leaves. Marlena and Roman talk for a few minutes about John and then Marlena tells him that she loves him.

John goes down to the park to think, but is interrupted by screams from nearby. Most unfortunately he has to be a hero and go and rescue the blonde from the knife wielding muggers.....

John manages to save Kristen from the muggers and she tells him she is a social worker who does most of her work for nothing. She discovers he's John's Black and doesn't seem terribly thrilled about it. Just then, John notices that she's cut and she swoons into his arms.

Marlena tells Roman that it was a misunderstanding. She had said something to the nurse about hoping her baby was a Scorpio baby and the nurse had misunderstood. Everyone comes round for the party but it is interrupted by John carrying Kristen in and dumping her on the couch like a sack of spuds. Roman and Tom take her out to the kitchen to tend to her wounds and question her about the mugging. John goes in but when he comes back out Marlena notices he's been cut too. She sits him down and treats it, telling him that if it had been much deeper he would have been in real trouble. He of course just tells everybody it's a scratch. Marlena tells Sami to go upstairs and get one of Roman's shirts for John. Sami glares at her and Marlena tells her in no uncertain terms to "Do it *now*. Roman comes back in when John is dressing in his (plaid) shirt and mentions something about their Libra baby. Then he proceeds to tell the room about the nurse thinking it was going to be born in November.

John and Kristen had a spat at the community centre. Kristen told John she hates rich guys. She spent half the episode ringing mystery people to tell them John Black was in Salem.

Marlena is heading off to work when Roman asks her when the amnio is going to be done. She says she will let him know. As she leaves she prays the baby will be perfect. And be Roman's. When she gets to the hospital, Alice tells her about Carrie last night. Then she runs into Kristen who is busy mouthing off about John and all the terrible things he has done. When Marlena questions her she won't elaborate and Marlena tells her to shut her mouth until she knows all the facts.

Kristen has more attitude about John, culminating with John being locked in a burning community centre and Kristen outside.

Kristen eventually pulls John out of the burning building and John accuses her of torching it herself. They argue at the hospital and as they leave. But of course John wants to help her get the funding she needs

John tries to give Kristen twenty-five grand towards the community centre, but she turns him down. John talks to Mickey about it and they arrange to filter it through the hospital. John runs into Marlena who warns him about Kristen's perceived problems with him. She tells John that since he's me Kristen he has been in all sorts of trouble and he should be careful round her. Marlena gets called down for her amniocentesis test and Bo tells John about it. Bo is going off to relieve Roman on stakeout so that he can be there. Marlena heads into the examination room and the nurse wants to ask her a few questions. She asks her how long she thinks she has been pregnant and Marlena answers sixteen weeks. What she doesn't see is John come into the room after that.

Meanwhile Kristen has gone to see the man in a wheelchair with chubby hands and the phoenix ring, wanting to know why it is that she should hate John Black so much.

John says that the baby is due early October - right? The nurse heads off and Marlena asks John how long he had been standing there. He tells her just long enough to hear the nurse ask the baby's due date. He tells her that he wants to be there for the amnio if Roman can't make it and then tells her that he thinks he should accept the offer of godfather. Turning it down would hurt Roman and might arouse his suspicions. Marlena agrees but they are interrupted by Kimberly. She is more than a little surprised to see John there and Marlena asks John to get her a cup of tea. Kim tells Marlena that seeing John there seems odd to her. This should be something private between her and Roman. She knows something is very wrong, Marlena looks very tired and she suspects her blood pressure is up. She tells Marlena if something is troubling her, it's not good for the baby. Marlena says she does have a secret, but she'd not sure if she can tell him, but then she can't help herself and it all comes tumbling out. She tells him that she and John haven't been fighting their feelings, at least not all the time - they gave into them - twice. She ends up by telling Kim what's eating her inside is that she doesn't know who's baby this is and John mustn't find out that it could be his. She just has to hope that everything works out. She tells Kim that she feels terribly guilty and she thinks that Kim must hate her now. Kim tells her no - she has made enough of her own mistakes and she can't judge Marlena. Marlena tells her she loves Roman and will do anything to keep this marriage together. Kim says she knows Marlena will, but she is concerned that the lies will end up hurting Roman, however well intentioned they are. John comes back with the tea and Kim heads off. John stays for the amnio and when Roman eventually arrives, it's all over. Marlena has a picture of the ultrasound for him - but they can't tell the sex of the baby yet...not that she wants to know.
