As they are getting out Christmas Decorations , Austin's fight is put back to the New Year and They wonder where they are going to get the next five grand installment for the loan shark. Billie sees a diamond earring and Carrie tells her that John gave them to her for her high school graduation but she lost one. Austin tells her not to sell the remaining one - it has sentimental value. However later she comes home with a gift as does he. She gives him a phonogram to play his old records and he gives her a diamond earring to match hers. The only problem is she sold her other earring to buy him the record player and he sold his records to buy her the earring.

November 11 - December 14, 1992 Austin gets involved with Gus, the fight promoter/ Carrie helps John find Marlena/ Tracey Middendorf's last scenes.

Austin is still trying to work out how to get his hands on some money when he runs into someone he knows from Boston. And this someone just happens to be a fight promoter. He tries to talk Austin into getting back into the ring to make some fast cash. He leaves Austin thinking seriously about it. Billie and Carrie, however, are less than thrilled and try to talk him out of thinking about it.

Kim (in her mutiple personality storyline) as Lacey shoots Roman.
At the pub, Billie tells Carrie that her dad Curtis was shot by cops. When Carrie leaves Billie remembers it. A cop comes in looking for Carrie and tells Billie about Roman. Carrie is at Austin's trying to talk him out of fighting when she gets a phone call. She tells Austin to take her to her dad. At the hospital Carly tells them all that Roman is in critical condition and they are doing what they can. Roman comes round and Bo goes into see him. Roman insists that they have to help Kim as she didn't know what she was doing. Bo assures him that they'll do everything they can. He tells Roman that they haven't been able to get hold of Marlena yet but as soon as she checks her messages she'll be back. Roman tells him that she's in DC and can't be reached. Other members of the family go into see him but his condition deteriorates and when Abe is in there he lapses into a coma. Kim gets out on bail and goes to see Roman. She talks to him and tells him how sorry she is. She tells him that they are both fighters and he can get through this. She is just about to leave when he squeezes her hand and then comes out of the coma.
Carrie and Billie implement their plan to keep Austin out of the boxing ring. The first part is to set up a gym in Carrie's apartment. Austin agrees to let Carrie train him. He trains and then they make out for a while till he falls asleep.

Billie went to John and asked him for some money, telling him Carrie had gotten into some trouble shopping and maxed out her credit cards. John went to Carrie and asked her about it so she was forced to tell him the truth about Austin - all but the fact that he was actually running the gambling operation.

Thanksgiving dinner at the Brady Pub was thrown for all the homeless people by John. Roman went despite only having gotten out of a coma the day before. John asked Austin about the money. Austin was angry with Carrie. They made up.

John goes to DC to hunt down Marlena and he calls Carrie to ask her to sit Brady. Austin gets a warning, he needs to pay five thousand dollars by the end of the day. Billie goes with Carrie and filches one of John's cheques, after forging his signature. She takes the cheque and pays the loan shark. Back at the loft, Carrie finds the answering machine and puts it on the counter, but it gets hidden under a baby blanket.

It is the day of Stella's funeral and Roman and Carrie are going. John finds Roman there and tells him he couldn't find a trace of Marlena in DC. Jesse tells Carrie that he's going back to live in NY with his dad.

Carrie manages to get the truth out of Billie about how she got hold of the $5000 and lets her have it with both barrels. Later she catches up with Billie outside the pub but Billie tells her that she has changed her mind about Austin fighting - if he wants to do it they should stand by him. They have an argument and Carrie tells her she's carry out the plan with or without her help.

Back at the loft Carrie is taking Brady out for a walk so John can make some calls when she pulls a gold earring from her pocket and gives it to John telling him it fell out of his coat pocket. HE pockets it as she comments that it looks like one of Marlena's. She leaves and he is looking for something when he discovers the answering machine. When he plays it he discovers messages from Roman and himself and realizes it's Marlena's machine. But what is it doing in his loft? He jumps into the car to take it to the station but as he is playing the tape again he remembers Roman's comment about Stella's last words and then pulls the earring out of his pocket. He puts two and two together and actually comes up with fours and races for the warehouse. He gets into the room as the explosives are ready to go and screams Marlena's name. She manages to call back right before the warehouse blows up.

Roman heads back to the loft where he finds out John was supposed to be going to the station. Except that no one has seen him for hours. He calls Abe and asks him to check impound for Marlena's car. Abe does and gets back to him with the news that it has been there for almost a month. Carrie is starting to get scared and Roman isn't far behind her.

Carrie and Roman stay the night at the loft and are getting really worried when John doesn't come home. Carrie tells Roman about the earring that looked like Marlena's and they think he might have a lead. Abe calls to tell them that John's car was used in a robbery and then it was found deserted. Roman comes down to the station while they run tests on it. A cop comes in with the tape and machine and the reports on the car. Roman discovers Stella's fingerprints were all over the car and when he plays the tape he finds his own voice is on it. He is even more confused when he discovers the answering machine was bought right there in Salem.

In the pit Marlena is giving up. John is trying to keep her going, saying that someone will find them soon, but in truth, his hopes are fading, especially when they hear the bulldozers start up. Marlena reminds him that a long time ago they said that if it ever had to end, they wanted to be together. Then she throws herself in his arms and tells him that she's glad they are together. He tells her that so is he. As the bulldozers rumble forward John suddenly gets the idea to make a fire for a smoke signal. They burn some of their clothes and Roman sees the smoke rising from the rubble. The foreman tries to tell him it is just dust but Roman insists that there is someone down there. They begin to pull away the rubble and discover the trapdoor. He is astounded to find John and Marlena in the pit clinging to each other. He tells him he'll get them out even if he has to come down there himself. John tells him that Marlena is too weak to hang onto a rope so they get a ladder and John follows Marlena up the ladder. When she falls into Roman's arms, John gives them a little sad look.

Marlena is in the hospital where she thanks John for saving her and they make a pact to make the most of their second chance. Later, Carrie brings Brady to the hospital to John. (Tracey's Last Speaking lines as Carrie).

The guests arrive for Bo and Carly's wedding. (Tracey is last seen in Salem).

IN OTHER NEWS: Days executives have recast the roll of Carrie Brady with the actress who held the roll from 1986 to 1990 - Christie Clark. Christie got the roll in 1986 when the original actress to play Carrie (Andrea Barber who plays Kimmie Gibbler on Full House) left the roll. Christie as Carrie entered the Brady household just as Drake Hogestyn became Roman Brady. This will be Christie's first time playing Carrie with Wayne Northrop in the role of Roman. Christie took time off from Days in 1990, to spend her Senior year in High School making memories and enjoying her last year of high school in an actual school with her friends. After graduation, from February to October of 1992, Christie appeared as Cindy, best friend to Robin Scorpio on General Hospital. Christie was contacted by Days about returning to the roll of Carrie, but was first brought in for an audition just to make sure she had matured enough to play opposite Patrick Muldoon's Austin, who is Carrie's love interest. Tracey Middendorf's last scenes will air December 14, 1992 and Christie Clark's first episode will air December 18, 1992.
